Wendy Ford, President-Elect, participated in the Leadership Meeting for Opticians in Savannah, GA. She participated in discussions related to continuing education needs at the state as well as the national level, and met with various leaders in the industry to promote contact lens education. Then I represented CLSA at the JCAHPO Commission meeting in St Paul, MN. Having our organization represented on the Commission not only gives representation for our members who work in Ophthalmology, but it has also resulted in CLSA being invited to present at the annual ACE meeting during the American Academy of Ophthalmology's annual meeting in New Orleans in November. CLSA will provide a one-day contact lens track for ophthalmic assistants across the country as interest is growing in Ophthalmology to have certified assistants and technicians learn more about proper contact lens fitting, in-office techniques and follow up care. JCAHPO also discussed the growing need to promote the Ophthalmic Technician as a career path in the employment field as there is a nationwide shortage of skilled personnel. The CLSA and ATPO job boards are online and available to anyone in need of skilled personnel in their office. In addition to these outreach opportunities, CLSA is continuing to provide excellent education across the country. The OpticonĀ® 2017 program will be held October 6-8, 2017 at the Contemporary Resort in Orlando, Florida. Education chairs, Mike Gzik and Terry Klein have worked tirelessly to procure educational tracks that include intermediate and advanced level education on scleral lenses, keratoconus, and management of other eye diseases with many types of contact lens materials and innovative designs to be discussed. Dry eye management and new surgical procedures that impact contact lens success will also be included. The rapidly expanding field of pediatric myopia control and the use of soft multifocal and overnight vision shaping/corneal refractive RGP therapy will be discussed. We are also re-introducing short manufacturer's presentations about the latest in contact lens designs, materials, surface treatments and solutions. Registration is now open for our Dallas Area Specialty Contact Lens Meeting on June 3, 2017. Hurry and register today! For those who participate in the CooperVision "Frequent Fitter Program", use your points to help cover your registration and hotel cost, then give your Cooper Rep a big "THANK YOU" for offering CLSA members assistance to attend these wonderful programs.
