EyeSpy 32 CLSA EyeWitness Spring 2017 Product Watch By Jason Compton, OD, FAAO Tangible Hydra-PEG ™ – Contamac (Category: Lens Coating Technology, New Release) Contamac Ltd. announced the official U.S. launch of Tangible Hydra-PEG ™ at this year's Global Specialty Lens Symposium. Tangible Hydra-PEG ™ is a contact lens coating technology that encapsulates the Optimum GP material in an ultra-thin layer of a PEG-based polymer (polyethylene glycol), creating a lens surface that is extremely wettable and very lubricious. According to the company, Tangible Hydra-PEG ™ seeks to tackle frustrations caused by contact lens discomfort. Their goal was to minimize the disruption of the ocular surface by creating a lens surface that is highly wettable. Additionally, Tangible-Hydra-PEG ™ creates an incredibly lubricious surface that can reduce both protein and lipids deposits, as well as reduce the friction caused by the interaction between the lid and contact lens during the blink. Available on Optimum Comfort (Dk 60), Extra (Dk 100), and Extreme (Dk 125), you can find this new technology from several specialty contact lens laboratories including AccuLens, Advanced Vision Technologies, Art Optical Contact Lens, Metro Optics, TruForm Optics and X-Cel Specialty Contacts.
